Frequently asked questions
Is the password generated in my browser?
Yes. The tool runs in your browser and uses its cryptographic random number generator. The generator makes no network requests, so nothing is sent to a server or stored.
How does passphrase mode work?
It picks six words at random from the EFF large word list of 7,776 words, using your browser’s cryptographic random generator. If Numbers and Symbols are ticked, it adds a number from 0 to 99 and a symbol at the end.
What length should I use?
The tool recommends 12 to 15 characters. Longer is stronger, so go longer if the site allows it, and store the result in a password manager.
Can I avoid look-alike characters?
Yes. Turn on “Exclude similar characters” to leave out pairs such as O and 0, or l and 1.
